This includes changes to the school grounds, facilities, equipment and ensuring safe transportation to and from school as well as similar measures on school playgrounds.

Action Schools! BC is a best practices model that helps schools promote healthy living, including integrating physical activity throughout the day. Six action zones to help increase physical activity: the school environment; scheduled physical education; classroom action; family and community; extra-curricular and school spirit. Everactive Schools program is currently working with many Alberta schools. Of this number, 131 schools have submitted Game Plans of strategies to increase health behaviours in their school community. Living Outside the Box is an active living campaign from Alberta Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture. It provides an information website for kids, parents, teachers and coaches. www.liveoutsidethebox.ca Saskatchewan in motion Youth strategy targets youth aged 13 – 19 in a high school setting. The objectives are to improve youth’s ability to access a wide variety of physical activities that suit their interests and needs, improve their ability to support a physically active learning environment and improve their skills, confidence and knowledge to access community based physical activity opportunities. Saskatchewan in motion Children’s strategy targets children 6-12 years of age in the school setting and their home setting. . , www.saskatchewaninmotion.ca

The Ontario Safety Guidelines for Physical Education: All sections of the Safety Guidelines including; Curricular Programs, Intramural Clubs and Activities and Interschool Athletics, have undergone an entire review. The 2008 documents are now available to school boards who are subscribers to the Safety Services Package. Educators should check with their contact for Safety or H&PE within their board to find out how to obtain the latest version.
